Importing from Excel Datatype error

I am trying to import a rather large excel spreadsheet into a new table in a database I am creating. When the data is imported, it changes my formatting on 2 of the columns from date to number, along with it changing the data to a text string. The strange part is I have 4 columns in a row with dates, and 2 import correctly, and 2 do not. I have already tried to "set" my datatypes in the spreadsheets by entering 9 rows of dummy data at the top with the correct data types. Any ideas?
