Hello,

I have a serious problem on an "access" database that I made myself, but that now I can't open. I was setting the users and groups and I gave myself the administrator privilege. Then I eliminated the administration privilege from the "administrator" user. Then I closed the file and from that time I can't reopen it, because it says that I don't have the permissions to. It doesn't even ask me the user name or password (the passwords weren't even already been set). No one here at our IT services are able to help, we've been trying for days to solve the problem without results. If someone could help me, I'd be very very pleased, because it's extremely important that I can open it.

Thank you.
Andrea

Might work????

I am not sure if this will help or not but have you tried to create a blank database and then tried to import the tables from the locked one? Like I said I am not sure if it will help but hey it is worth a shot

Yes, I tried but it imports everything but the tables content, that is what I strongly need!!! It import structures, querys, etc... but not what is inside the tables!

Thank you for your help!

Happened to me too! After struggling for hours someone gave me the perfect tip to solve the problem with very little effort. I'm sure there are other and more sophisticated ways but I'd just reinstall Access and that takes care of your problem.

There was a shortcut created when you applied the security. You must use the shortcut to gain access to the db. Without getting the login prompt it makes me think that you are trying to open the db without using the shortcut. The shortcut does 3 things. It starts Access, opens the db and joins the appropriate workgroup. I'm at home today but have posted the shortcut syntax several times before so if you search for user Autoeng and keyword Security you'll get some hits that I'm sure one will have the syntax in it. If you can't find the shortcut you can make your own by right clicking on the desktop and creating new shortcut and just type in the command line.

Good luck

Thank you for your kind reply. I tried to do as you wrote, I created the shortcut but the database still doesn't open. It's difficult to let you understand the complexity of my problem. I contacted several PC experts and no one could solve the problem. It's not a mere security problem. This file seems to be untouchable. I also sent the file to some database experts without results. It's a great trouble, I don't think I'll be able to solve it....
If you could let me send you the fille, you'd realize what I'm saying.

Thank you,
Andrea

Hi Andrea. I really think that this is related to security. Can you send it to me? That is if you are still trying to get in. Send me you email address via a private message.

Andrea, I've seen this many times and recovered what seemed like lost causes. It was always, as Autoeng suggests, a security problem. If you want you can send me on the MDB + MDW files as well and I'll take a look...
