I seem to remember - way back in my access class that I have not used regularly, therefore have forgotten much - that there is a way to put a description of the query or form or table that pops up in a kind of box when the cursor is placed over the name. I hope that makes sense - if not, read on.

I have a lot of queries and would want anyone using them to know what they will do before they click on one - because it might mess things up.

Thanks in advance,
Peg

Are you talking about the Tool Tip on the Other tab of the properties sheet? If not then I don't know what you need, sorry.

Well, for one you should always use forms for data input as you have more control over things that way. I never let the user have direct access to the tables or queries.

If you use a form, you can use the Control Tip Text to do pop up information.

I am using Microsoft Access 2003. I do not find a "Tool Tip on the Other tab of the properties sheet". I am looking on the properties for a form.

I do not see "Control Tip Text" either. I may be looking in the wrong place, or they may not exist in 2003 or they may actually be called something else and these references are Access "Lingo" I am not familiar with - can either be more specific? And in regards to "I never let the user have direct access to the tables or queries." these would be for my own reference also as my time to spend on this is fragmented and I need "refeshed" on the process.

The controls on a form have controltip text properties. The form itself does not. I'll try to give you more info later when I get home from work in about 3 hours.

Hi Peg,
Bob got it right with "ControlTip Text" on the Other tab of the property sheet for a control. AFAIK there is no such feature for queries or tables save the right click and properties and fill in the Description which will display if you View>Details.

Hello:

If you right-click on the query, you can select Properties from the menu and fill out a short description. It does not appear with the cursor though. The user by doing this can see what the query does.

Regards
Mark

Rural Guy - yes there is that for fields - but I had hoped for the text for a complete form - not just a field(s) within it.
Mhartman - I did find the description box also - but as you said you have to right click and check properties... not what i hoped for.
But thank you both for your help.
