Hi Access fans,

Though I love Access so much and I did a number of useful small applications using it, but I wander now - while I'm at the beginning of a new application- if Access is the perfect choice for my new app? I wish the answer will be yes because I didnt use any other database software 😁😁, I heared about some limitations of Access like dealin with big data files and security issues, but because I used to make small apps which are designed for personal use and not intended to be used over network, those limitations were not a problem at least for me. Now I'm working on new project which will be used over network by number of users, and for recording about 300 visits per day I expect the data file to grow very fast. I hope that Access be a good choice for my new application, please let me know if you have designed Something that is BIG using Access and how far it is good for that.

Sorry for my bad English😜😁

You have not supplied any information other than "300 visits per day" to use in judging. 300 single lookups in a db per day is absolutely nothing, if that was what was meant. Supply specific details of your envisaged application. Know that many websites used to run on Access without glitches.

Thank you for your fast response, the app will manage patient visits in customer service center in a hospital, the visit information contain patint name, age, address, sex, social number, Insurance law, section in the hospital he is going to visit, and section head name, after recording the visit we print out this visit to be with patient, after doing his service he comes back to customer service to complete the visit, I designed pending visits screen for this, I complete his information depending on the service done to him then close his visit to be saved for further use, the app contains seach service by name or by social num, by date, by section or by service done, it will be used over network ( about 6 pcs) and serving average o 300 visits per day, I know it will run smooth at the beginning but I'm afraid after sometime with a big data file there will be a problem or any other issue, hope these info is enough.

It seems to me that your application can run happily for a year or two with no problems. You can always move the backend to the free MS SQL emasculated version.

Which country? Because I'm sure there are some requirements concerning the safety of data, and I'm not sure if Access is adequate.

Hang in here, and perhaps some more knowledgeable people chime in. If not, post a direct question on that subject stating your country.

I'm from Egypt, I'll hang in here for sure because I trust in here very much, I wanted to know how far Access is successful and stable, and to know if someone here had designed a big project using it, thank you very much for your time and your patience.

Dear spikepl, what would go wrong after two years? is it the large data file what you mean or something else? and what about backing up my data each two years? could this be a good solution for keeping application running smoothly?

Thank you.

Yahya

I see no problem. you'll have about 300,000 records after 3 years. Access should have no problems with this.

I have some small apps that pased the 10 years of use.

Good news, thank you. :)
