is it possible to update/append only one record

hi,
I wonder if you can help me? I want to update a record by means of setting flag, trouble is my update query is updating ALL records and not just the one I want. Any ideas gratefully received.

You can do this by specifying a WHERE clause. But in order to do that, the record needs to contain a field with a unique identifier, ie: a field that allows you to tell that record apart from any other record in the table. In employee tables this is often times a social security number:

UPDATE MyTable SET SomeField = SomeValue WHERE UniqueField = UniqueValue
