Is using a report the best way to send a letter using data from my table(s)? I ask because it seems cumbersome to use a label box for each line that the letter will say, then the field(s), then another label box. So I'm thinking this isn't proper protocol. From a form the user will click send letter (report), choose the letter, then print. No data entry since he will be linked to the data. So before I do 8 letters I'd like some feedback.
Thanks
Ray

Most people use Microsoft Word (or a similar product) and use the mail merge feature to connect to their database. This allows the formatting and customization features of Word along with the data management features of Access.

I knew about word mailmerge but how can that be used from a Form?
Thanks for the reply.

Create a query in Access that contains the data for the specific letter and mailing you are working on.

In Word, use the mail merge function and get the data from the query you just created.

Thanks, do you\anyone know if it is possible to call/open a word document from within the form like on a command button, 'Print Letter.doc' ?

off subject, how can I show an avatar? or is that something you earn?

Mail merge is a Word function. I don't know of a method you can call it from Access.

I will await correction on this as it is somthing I'd like to know myself.

I noticed there is an ad for "Access to Word Mail Merge" on this page. You may wish to check that out.

check in the samples for super easy word -

this is a mail merge built on the data in the form . see if you can find my notes on this - there is a small draw back that is easliy got round - max merge fields 250
(none of this is my own work )
