Hi all

Can anyone recommend some software that will combine a series of jpgs into a video output?

My little boy found some videos on YouTube of animated Lego figures but I had to ban it due to the expletives on the over dubs! So I told him that we would make our own.

Any suggestions?

Regards

Tyler

If you've using Windows XP you already have :p Windows Movie Maker it's pretty simple but does the job though it exports to WMV format (does it have to be MPG? or more accurately MPEG :p) or Virtualdub - it's free :D (exports to AVI)

JPGVideo can create a video (AVI) file from a series of JPG files.

VirtualDub is pretty good - I think you might actually need VirtualDubMod to handle the compression in jpegs, but I could be wrong about that.

I sometimes use a free program called SSMM (Slide Show Movie Maker) to create my stopmotion films - the interface is a bit quirky - and the program is really designed for creating slideshows, but if you set the slide duration to one frame, it does the right thing.

Here's an example of one of mine - created with VirtualDub:

A few tips:
-Get a tripod, or improvise some other method for keeping the camera steady between shots.
-If you can, turn off all the automatic this and that on your camera - if it adapts differently to the colour balance or lighting in different frames, your video will be quite flickery - you want to try to take all the shots with the same exposure settings.
-When you're starting out, there are some shortcuts you can take: use a slower frame rate (you can get away with as little as 5 frames per second in your video, in some cases) and if you have any repetitive motion (such as a character playing on a swing), you can just re-use the same set of frames more than once.
-Plan around your battery life and memory card capacity - if you have to remove the camera from the tripod to change either, use it as an opportunity to change the shot and film the next scene from a different camera angle (you'll never put the camera back on the tripod exactly as before).

I think you try windows movie maker for your purpose surely it will gonna finished...
