hi access-programmers, new guy here.

i think i read that what im looking to do isnt possible (well not in any easy sence at least, but id thought id ask you wonderfull people if it is

is it possible to use a list box in the detail section of a form? and for each list box to be populated depending on whatever part number its been linked too..

eg

i have
PN1
PN2
PN3
PN4
PN5

in another table these numbers would have alternative part no, some may have 1 others may have 100
so for eg

PN1:-
PN1a
PN1b
PN1C

PN2:-
PN2a

PN3:-
PN3a
PN3b
PN3c

linking up a list box at the moment would just bring the alternative numbers for PN1 in each list box in the detail, but id like the detail to contain whatever the recordset Part number is..

any help?? might be a little vague with the description as obviously its a little more complex, but if i could solve this, i could apply the same line of thinking to my own programm

thanks if anyone can help

Do a search on here for "one combo box based on another"

hi spoole,
not found any helpfull links on that search term, if i wanted combo boxes id be ok (and may have to do it this way as i seem to have hit a brick wall with list boxes)
as comboboxes values are hidden untill selected i could do something like bind the box to my db then set source/refresh on click. which would give me the correct list every time

what i want is for a list of items to be shown in the detail, on a continuous form!

IE to expand on my previous example

Users would scroll down the form thro each PN1, For each PN1 detail there would be a listbox with <Alternative Part No> <quote date> < Quote Price>

eg
PN1:-
PN1A <quote date> < Quote Price>
PN1B <Quote Date> <Quote Price>
PN1C <Quote Date> <Quote Price>

this would allow users to quickly scan thro items and take appropriate action if pricing was wrong, dates where out of date etc etc..

i do have a system inplace now that has 5 sets of texts box and i have vba populating tables with this information, But it takes up too much space and im limited to 5.
a list box would be best, but apprently im reading it cant be done

yea im thinking that, its a shame really. would have been nice to do but you learn something new everyday..
its probably the same reason behind not being able to use subforms in continuous forms!!..
