When I was about five years old (1947) and I did something bad, sometimes as punishment my mom would make me read a poem, “I wish I was the boy my mother thinks I am” Anybody know where I can find a copy of that poem.

Hi Wayne,
Thanks for trying, but the link would not open. I tried it thee times.

THE MAN MY MOTHER THINKS I AM

By Will S. Alkin

Whilst walking down a crowded city street the other day

I heard a little urchin to a comrade turn and say:

“hi chimie, lemme tell youse i’d be happy as a clam

if i only was the feller that my mudder tinks i am.”

she tinks i am a wonder and she knows her little lad

could never mix with nuttin’ dat was ugly, mean or bad.

oh lots of times i sit and tink how nice t’would be gee whiz-

if a feller was de feller dat his mudder tinks he is.

my friends, be yours a life of toil or undiluted joy

you can learn a wholesome lesson from that small unlettered boy.

don’t aim to be an earthly saint with eyes fixed on a star

just try to be the fellow that your mother thinks you are.

thanks Ryan. I don't remerber the word mudder in it but thenm again 64 years ago is a long time. Either way it is close enough. Thanks again

Oops, should have posted Wayne, sorry about that. BTW, I like looking at where people come from on the forum, I wish everybody listed there neck of the woods. My ministry takes me all over the USA, and I almost made it to Camarillo as I had a meeting in Santa Maria, CA and was going to stop off in Port Hueneme, CA as I am a retired Sea Bee and there is a Sea Bee museum there. I probably would have gone right through Camarillo. I had to cancel the meeting so never made it.
