Hello I have built 4 Access databases, 1 being a Major project that I ran my entire company from for 14 years, I tracked work in process incoming raw inventory, time spent on all jobs, etc... Now as I said, I built the tables reports forms, queries, I wrote most of my own expressions either in the queries or reports or forms.
BUT when It came to the "Trick Stuff", What I call the "Magic behind the buttons" I had to hire a local programmer at $100.00 and hour.

What I am looking for in, is to learn how to "Put the Magic behind the buttons".

I know this is VBA and/or SQL.

The best way for me to learn is,
1) Example: I encounter a problem, "I am starting a new day at work, I open my MS app, Splash screen opens, switchboard opens, Now I want to see All the new orders to "Automatically" pop open on a form that shows all new orders "That need material ordered for them yet"

HOW Do I Make This Happen????????? … Using VBA and or SQL?

I need practable working applications to work with so I can learn the VBA and SQL needed

Can you PLEASE Direct me where to go to Learn the “Magic behind the buttons”?

Online free videos, the correct book(s), given my method of learning…..

I have been unemployed for over a year, You understand money is Very Tight.

Any and ALL Help is GREATLY APPREACEATED

David

Thank You Adam, But please do not reply to my questions if you are not willing to give direction or assistance,

My question is very simple and straight forward,

It does not need a disgruntle response, I am looking for simple direction.

Thank you
David

Then don't post your stuff in more than one forum. Thus, no one will point out the duplicate.

It is considered bad manners to post the same question to more than one category on a forum. So, that is why you have received the responses you have received.

Thank You Bob for that information, I have just started on the "Beginning Access 2007 VBA", I will also look at those tutorials on the site you suggested and move further into the 2nd book you recommended.

As for the "Multiple Post", I apologizes for that, I do not use forums very often,

Lesson Gained.

Thank You again
David

Anothing thing you might want to consider is hiring your own IT guy. If you are a manager (you seem to be), why not take the technical burden off your shoulders? The IT guy would also be able to perform tech support for your staff etc....

Sheesh... and I would have done it for $90/hour. :p

Really though, the books Bob listed are well worth it to have in your reference library.

Thank You arichins, I started my app in app 1987, I continued to build on it until I sold my shop 4 1/2 years ago..... I then went into building homes, you know the market there.

I love working w/ MS Access, I am currently pursuing this as homes are feast or fammon.

In addition to the app I built that ran my shop I also built a Complete app for child day care (my sister wanted this, tracking hours, incidents, meds given, Complete food tracking w/ reporting to the state of MI, etc) and another one for tracking All aspects of home building.

Needless to say I love building these apps, but MOST of all is rendering the reports that give the user feedback for Continuous Improvement insight of there businesses.

Thanks for the link MSAccessRookie,

Lastly but most important is to apologizes to ajetrumpet for my rude response to his attempts to maintain an orderly forum, I look forward to this being accepted.

Again Thank You All for your assist and direction in rekindling this old flame,
(Getting back into building MS Apps....)

I don't know if you have ever heard of this guy, "Mike Dugan", he is in the Grand Rapids MI area, There was (Possibly in my limited knowledge) NOTHING Mike could not do, we spent Months side by side as I asked him to generate one "Special Something" after another, (you can get an idea as to the size of this app, remember I built all the tables, forms, reports queries, Mike just came in and did the Trick Stuff after I had a list (8.5 x 14" legal page(s) for him to do) as I watched him I knew this is what I wanted to do but my wife wanted me to get into building homes, she knew I enjoyed this, We both agree now that was the wrong decision.

Just to mention why we sat "Side by side", I wanted to be sure his fingers Never stopped banging out code, (I would like to believe I got my moneys worth), Mike helped me on all 3 apps as all 3 were buttoned up for distribution.
But, that is where the fun stopped as I am NOT a sales person..... :-(

I (Mike) also incorporated bar coding for the shops personal input to many WIP fields.

Mikes site is here

For what it is worth, My shop was to build Super tight tolerance solid carbide ID Tooling for the computer and automotive industry. some of the tolerances we were able to hold (After TIN coating) was to +/- .002 microns, That is tight and we of course had to maintain PERFECT Concentricity.

The bottom line is I GREATLY Appreciate All you folks are doing in taking of your time to assist those who come to this site for help.
