Making Changes to Secured Database

I thought I had this whole thing set up correctly, but apparently not. I have used the Security Wizard to password-protect a database. Currently, 7 people have access to it. I have about 5 reports and I *thought* I had given myself admin access to be the only one who can make changes to the design of the reports. I went to make a change this morning and it said I didn't have security. So I went back and looked at the user-levels and it says I have admin access but it still won't let me make changes.

Help???

Thank you!

Molly

Molly,

There is a process to undue the security on a databse. I can't elaborate on it in this message, but search on "undue access security" in this forum and I'm sure you'll find the reference to the documentation.

Good Luck

Hi Molly,

Let's not get carried away and remove security just yet. Have you read the Access Security Faq's? If not you need to so as to identify where you went wrong with the implementation. The faq's can be found here...

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=/support/access/content/secfaq.asp

I urge you to read it throughly. Twice. Don't read a little then do, read it all the way through. You will continue to have problems until you have thoroughly read it.

Another excellent layman's explaination of security can be found here... (copy and paste to your address bar and add http before the :)

Now as far as your problem, is this a split database? If so you must make sure that you have the correct front end as security settings for all of the database objects are stored in there. It sounds as though you are able to access the db but not make any design changes. If you are the admin you shoudl be able to change the security to let you back in to the design mode of the reports. If you could either post your db in A97 zipped form or more in depth describe what is happening I'll try to help you out.

Also, if you used the wizard to set up the security it create an unsecured copy of your db with a .bak ending. If you rename it you can immediately begin to work in your db again.
