Good Morning,

I have trawled through the help files to find a means of saving a database as a read only version to distribute to interested users. I would eventually make it available to selected parties as a read/write version in a controlled manner.

Is such a facility available for Access 2010?

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

I have had a look at 'Security' but i don't see a solution to the read only facility.

are you trying to issue demo versions of stuff?
you can't really do this, practically, by trying to produce a "read only version". if you distribute a normal mdb your users can get to view and change your source code.

if this is just an internal thing, then put it in a folder to which users do not have write privileges. that will make it read only.

if this is for security reasons, then you need to issue an mde/accde, and you need to set every control to locked.=true, rather than locked=false. Instead add code to limit the number of edits they can make, and include a copy protection system.

the thing is access, excel, word etc are all just documents. how would you issue an excel spreadsheet or word document in a way that prevents users making any changes?

Many thanks for the comments.

It appears that that is an idea I have to abandon.
