Hi Guys,
I would like to find out whether it is possible to have an access database with a UI with an interactive map like the ones for sale on this website:
http://www.fla-shop.com/country/uk/multi-level-postcode-uk-1-1-demo/

I called the website and they were a bit clueless as to the applications..which seemed a bit strange! If there is a better/cheaper solution that anyone has, it would be great to hear about it!

Thanks,
VB:D

I'm not sure if this is the sort of thing you are looking for. The thread deals with embedded on line maps

you could try MS mappoint - you can get a 1 month trial

not free, but relatively easy to use and control from access

Hi guys,
thanks for the info, all i need the map for is to perform searches based on the areas that the user clicks on, so i dont need any very specific GIS info. Could anyone tell me if the map that I put the link to could work in an access database as the UI to a query?? thanks!VB

i've just said

try mappoint

once you understand how to handle that, it should give you more insight into how you might be able to use google maps anyway.

I have used mappoint and it is not the type of thing that i need, i just need a map interface it doesnt have to be linked to actual GIS data.

Yes it is possible. I have worked on several projects like this. I use MapWindow. Check out www.mapwindow.org.

They even have a sample using MS access as a database. With a bit of VBA knowledge, you can even use it on a powerpoint presentation while having it read live data from any database I want.

Just try to figure out the API and you can have your Map interface read from any database instead of the DBF / GIS file.
