mde files

Hi

access isn't allowing me to make .mde files; the menu option is there but greyed out. I'm not using a replicated database, there's no security settings, no add-ins... what am I missing? Is there a component I haven't installed?

If using Access 2002 it is not possible to convert an Access 2000 file format db to an mde. The file format is displayed at the top of the database window. - "Database Name": Database (File Format)

You have to convert the A2000 db to A2002 first, and then create an mde. (Tools / Database Utilities / Conert Database / To...) The conversion is not an issue as you can leave your A2000 version intact, and an mde can not be editted anyway. So if you need to alter, you can use your A2000 version and then re-convert and create another mde.
