I did some searching here and via Google; but never found my answers - so onward I go. :banghead:

I am creating a new database for storing the MANY policies/proceedure documents the company has into one location that will be easily searchable. We are just going to re-create all of them in access; cutting/pasting the MSWord files in one at a time (I've not located an easy way to import them yet).

They will be stored in a table; but since the text of the documents can be between 1/2 to 4 pages in length I believe I will need to use a memo field. However when I am creating the table I have no options to select what the memo field formatting will be. From what I have read today I need to have this set to 'Rich Text' so that I can use underlines/bolds/etc throughout the body of the memo field.

In design view of the table, under the general tab there is a "Format" option, but there is nothing in the drop down box. It's completely blank. Shouldn't I have the option to select "Rich Text" here? Is something not installed correctly? I've now tried this on 3 seperate computers and all have given me the same blank drop down.

First, I would like to know how to get that fixed so that I can use rich text in my fields. Second, if anyone has a better idea of how to do this than the way I am thinking I'm game to hear that too!

Thank You!

You want "Text Format", not "Format". Look a little lower down on the list.

I just got home from work. If it is that simple I'm gonna kick myself in the backside!

No, no, when it's that simple you rejoice. :)

Yes!!! I am NOT loosing my mind!!

Lagbolt - I wanted to believe it would be this simple. I really did. :D
I rushed into work this morning and the first thing I wanted to do was to look at this setting so I could move forward on this db today. Alas - no luck! :(

You said to look at "Text Format", not "Format", but I do not have that option. Instead of trying to take a snapshot of my screen, here is what I have:

In the table's design view, field name is Body and data type is Memo.
General tab has the following options:
Format (Blank - nothing in dropdown box)
Caption (Blank)
Default Value (Blank)
Validation Rule (Blank)
Validation Text (Blank)
Required (No)
Allow Zero Length (No)
Unicode Compression (Yes)

I didn't mention in my first post; but I am using MS Access 2000. I hope that does not matter.

Further Ideas???

Quick Update..

I have access to Access 2010 and I see where the difference is and can change the format to Rich Text there. After saving and re-opening on Access 2000 the settings will not go through.
My one line entry for testing did get a bunch of HTML coding added to it; but it doesn't display any differently.

I have grabbed the 2000 install disk and will be going through to make sure ALL options for Access are installed. Hopefully that will fix things??

No, that option is not available in Access 2000. It was introduced in Access 2007. Sorry.

Well this stinks..
Anyone know of a way to add information to Access2000 in a way I can keep RTF formatting for the body of information?

There is a Rich Textbox ActiveX control you can look into, but I don't think the format of the markup it uses is the same as what Microsoft introduced for the Rich Text option in Access 2007. Still worth a look.

Open a form in design view, click to add an ActiveX control and in the popup window look for the "Microsoft Rich Textbox Control 6.0 (SP6)"

Probably you will have different version and/or service pack numbers.
