I have a Memo field on a Table (no Format, Validation, Compression, IME and Plain Text) and input is cutting of at 255 characters. This is into the Table Field not through a form or anything else.

I have tried pasting more in - and the whole text shows initially - but when you review the field it has definitely cut back to 255 characters - checked in Word.

I have added a new Memo field to the same table and pasted 500+ characters - again it shows on pasting but not on reviewing - its back to a text 255 characters.

I have Memo fields in other databases that work exactly as expected but this one wont!!

Can some please explain whats happening and how I fix it

How are you trying to view it.

If it is on a Form then delete that control and replace it with a new one.

As stated above - this is directly into the field on the table

I tried this.
You are correct. It will not show all of the data there.
Funny thing though, click on the field, hit end and type a char. the data appears again.

Strange.

Searching a little I found that this is not a new problem.

Most of the problems come from imported data from Excel.

Do you have any Formatting.

Suggest you try creating a new field. Do not alter anything to do with this field.

Hi Agian - Access 2007 - and as I mentioned in original message "no Format, Validation, Compression, IME and only Plain Text.

Tried the new field - with the same result - test data was cut and pasted from Word (not Excel)

Thanks

Sorry for going back over old ground. I have over 10,000 posts on various sites and I find that some people do not understand instructions or they simply choose to ignore it.

I am at a lost as to a solution.

Suggest you create a new Database with just that table and post it here. I don't have 2007 but someone who has might be able to test it for you.

Just a further fleeting thought or two.

Do a compact and Repair. Test on a different machine if you have one. Go back to a different word document and retest with different data.

Other than that I feel that it would be best to leave this up to someone who does use 2007. Of course the best solution is to go back to using 2003. It is a superior product.

BTW is every thing up to date with Microsoft's latest updates. You could also do a repair of the installation from the control panel.

Good luck

Rain, I get the same thing in a new database with nothing in it but the new table.
The table has ID field and TEST set to Memo.
Type in 800 char and only about 254 are displayed when you open the table again.
All of the chars are there, just not displayed.

Kiwi - definitely

Had a great summer (drought over most of country) but a real cold snap at the moment - lots of snow for those that like it cold

Surely you are simply not using a big enough field. In size I mean. Open it up with your mouse.

Sorry if that sounds insulting but we have all done silly things.

Also try it on a form and use a large control.

How do you know. If you can't see them how do you know they exist.

I just created a database in 2010, with 1 table called Table1. It has 2 fields

Id autonumber
MyMemo memo

I Googled Spam; took the wikipedia definition/writeup and pasted it into MyMemo. Then saved the table.

If I open the table, put the cursor on the MyMemo field and hit Shft_F2 to open the zoom, I see all the data. If I query to see the Len(MyMemo) , it returns 8901.

I created a form with 1 textbox whose control source is MyMemo. I put the font to 6 pt to try and get all data on a viewable page but no luck.

So I have attached 2 jpgs
a) 1 showing the Table with cursor on the myMemo field then hit shft_F2 to open zoom box; and
b) a screen capture of the form with the textbox showing the contents of the memo field.

and the database in 2010 format.

I tried saving the database in 2003 format, it saved the table, but indicated that some objects contained 2010 features and couldn't/wouldn't be saved.

I have attached what was converted to 2003 format also.

Is it possible (of course it is) that you have CrLf within the text, and I think by default it is trying to show data on one line. For example, if you have a textbox and make the box tall and wide enough, you'll see more data. But if, like in my example, theres all sorts of line feeds, double line feeds etc, you may not see anything until the text box is larger.

Just a thought.

Well I'll be.
Just like Rain said.
If you make the table field big it will show.

Yes, I feel silly.

I will always be a newbie I guess.

Sometimes it helps when someone else says the same thing.

It makes you look harder.

What was that discussion we had about repeating the same thing. :)
