Missing toolbars and other errors

I'm using Excel 2000 and a couple of weeks ago I downloaded a spreadsheet with macros enabled from the UK Dept. of Health. I was told to do this and was assured it was safe. Yeah right!

Since then, the main toolbars have disappeared. Standard, formatting, drawing etc. When I go to View>Toolbars>Customise, they don't even appear in the list. I thought the macro had just switched them off but they seem to have disappeared altogether. Toolbars I rarely use ARE still there: auditing, shadow settings etc.

I have created a NEW toolbar and dragged my most frequently used buttons onto it, whcih gets me past the initial problem, but I have also lost all drag and drop capability. This is really annoying as I have to laboriously cut/copy and paste, cells wont autofill, etc.

Does anyone out there know if you can "reset" Excel somehow? My PC at home has "System Restore" - always useful when my kids have been messing around! - but this one doesn't.

The Dept of Health are dragging their heels over it. I have logged a call with them but I'm not holding my breath! Our own IT support can only suggest re-imaging the PC, which sounds drastic as I'll have to save all kinds of stuff elsewhere like favourites, macros, shortcuts etc.

Any other ideas, anyone?

Thanks

Howdy. Dave Mcritchie (MS MVP) has a section to help (for XL 2000).

Toolbar Help

Hmmm...thanks for this, Shades. I'm sure it's very helful to those who understand it, but i have to confessa lot of it is beyond me. I did find an option where drag and drop had been turned off, and turning it back on has resolved a lot of issues. My toolbars are still missing, but I can recreate them gradually in Customise.

Thanks again.

Restoring lost Excel Toolbars

Sorry I'm two years late to the party, but for others who may experience the same thing. A quick vba solution is to navigate to the vba editor and type the following in a module (note, if main already exists, make up a new name).

sub main()
For i = 1 To Application.CommandBars.Count
Application.CommandBars.Item(i).Enabled = True
Next i
End Sub

Run the code, once, and all 100+ toolbars and menu items will be restored.
