In this Jordan Peterson clip, he states that most people struggle to think critically:

I agree with him; thinking deeply is challenging, and few do it even superficially, let alone perfectly. However, I often have long conversations with AI like ChatGPT, Grok, or Gemini. After watching Peterson’s clip, I realized how valuable it is to discuss ideas with an unjudgmental, knowledgeable, and articulate companion. The non-judgmental aspect is crucial—you can speak freely, admit gaps in understanding, and explore ideas without fear. This, I believe, is one of AI’s most powerful contributions to society.

I guess that's why I enjoy my frequent conversations with Uncle where we discuss Access, the state of the world, construction, space travel, science fiction, and whatever comes into our minds, etc. I hate arguing with myself but I do try. Interestingly to those who read my political ramblings, my first response to Progressive ideas is frequently positive. It is only after I analyze them that I find the logic flaws and the unintended consequences of attempting to implement them. As an example, Solar and Wind make perfect sense superficially. They "feel" right and too many people look no further. The reality is quite different which makes them at best a useful supplement or stepping stone rather than a total replacement. Sorry for the "political" reference but I wanted a rational example of superficial vs deep analysis.

What if this weren't a hyperthetical question?

- is always the basis of a good critical thinking session.

I have been using ChatGPT as well. I find talking to it like a normal human causes some useful responses, and in general it has been very helpful in most of the things technical I am trying to accomplish. When it comes to code I do have to take the pieces and parts that I want to actually use but man, I have learned a bunch of new stuff asking it to help me do some very technical stuff. And when it doesn't work as expected I just feed back error codes and "more context" to refine the output.

ChatGPT works for me for coding I’m relatively inexperienced with, such as using regex and C#. Has saved me a lot of time.
