It's like deja vue all over again. I'm trying to link SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition tables with a MS Access 2003 database (Operating System is Vista Business). I have tried using the File | Get External Data | Link and the Linked Table Manager and neither seems to recognize any ODBC Databases in SQL Server 2005. I have set up ODBC Connections to SQL Server and the Connection Test is successful.

Has anyone been able to do this and if so, how.

I know this is another challenge from Microsoft and I will be a better consultant once I can resolve this but in the mean time.

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

So, have you selected the driver named "SQL Native Client," instead of the driver named "SQL Server?" That should get you where you want to be.

Bob.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I'm still stumped. Here's what I have. I have a databaase that was created in MSAccess 2000 and migrated to MS Access 2003. It was linked to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition for development. Since then I have installed SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition. Per your reply, I created a new ODBC Connection using SQL Native Connection. I try to link a table in my SQL Server database using Utilities | Link table Manager. It sees the SQL Server DB but when I try to link a table, it says it cannot find it. When I try File | Get External Data | Link Tables and click on ODBC Databases, nothing happens.

Any help, clues, secret steps, or links about this would be appreciated.

Oh by the way I have the dreaded VISTA.

Hi there,

When you install sql server 2005 developer edition by default it has remote connections turned off, these can be turned on by changing the remote connections option in the sql server 2005 surface area configuration.

Could this be your problem?
