Hi All,
A similar question has been asked on this forum. However, i need assistance from start to finish assume my knowledge of access is minimal, all information i can get will be helpful as i can put the pieces together by myself...
Here goes

Implement an application in MS Access to convert "test.txt" to a tab delimited file. All fields must be trimmed of extra spaces.
Add form to specify the input and output and a button to run the conversion.Do not use the TransferText function for this objective.

PS Extra Urgent!! thanks

open the file as text
open a new file as text

read a line
process a line
write a line
repeat until done

close files

done

ok, some code snippets might help

Copied that straight out of the course booklet eh?

Ask the instructor :)

Seriously... At least give it a try before asking for help...

Ken the sour mouth access MVP!! ..if ur not interested in helping, but rather enjoy jumping into conclusions i suggest you take your business elsewhere, i was told i could get help on this forum so i tried to make the problem as simple as possible, i didnt realise i would get criticism instead. Just so you know my first target has been achieved thanks to gemmas insight i can now read the file into a table with out any help

Actually, Ken has a point. The post read exactly like something off an assignment sheet (and we've been on the board long enough that we do have fairly sophisticated bullsh@t detectors). We get these questions frequently at the end of term and we don't mind helping students out at all, but when they post with an URGENT request and the post reads like an assignment, and they can't be straight up about it, then we tend to get irritated and all.

9 years on the board - you see quite a bit of this.

I am not a student finished uni a while ago, access and VB is not might thing, more into java so i struggle with the language, its far much easier for me to get a free lance coder and save my self the hassle. But the experience is invaluable....looks like wont get any help from here

Well, that's getting a bit extreme over some comments. I framed mine in relation to what we see frequently. You already did get some help from Dave and I didn't say that you were such but I did give you the reasons why Ken responded as he did.

It is your choice to give up on the forum here but you can also start over and just count it as a coincidence that we associated your writing with what we see quite often and is from an assignment sheet.

If you ask specific questions, then nobody has a problem answering. But beware that some people are a little more brash in their responses than others.

As a new comer, I find this forum one of the most helpful of any I have used - others are not access.

Ken's response has no exclamations and includes a smiling face.

I try and help with some simple questions and have a real problem finding an unanswered post.

Appreciate all the assistance you have given me Ken - some 12,000 odd posting and not a cent for your time.:)

If you ever bother to search this forum, you might find what you were looking for. ;-)

Maybe you should get in touch with the guy on this forum he seems to have a very similar problem to you just last month.
