MS Access Absence Database

Hi there people,

This seems like a good forum - could you help maybe guys?

I need to develop a database that manages a team of around 50 60 people.

Here are the business rules:

"When the number of absences exceeds 4 instances, send template1 email to appropriate Team Leader to instigate a Return to work interview

When the number of days absent exceed 10 days or more and the number of absences is >2, then send template1 email to appropriate TL to instigate RTWI

When the number of RTWI = 1 and any additional absences are recorded, send template2 email to appropriate TL.

When the RTWI = 3, instigate template3 email to TL and appropriate HR representative to instigate disciplinary

If ‘Time reported absence’ is exceeds ‘working hours’ start time by more than 1hr, send template4 email to TL

If ‘Report to TL’ is set to NO, send template4 to TL"

Only certain people must be able to update records etc and employee's addresses and personal details must be hidden / kept secure.

I am OK on Access but missed out on proper training.

Anyway my main Q's are:

Is this project possible through Access ie would it be possible to fire off automatic emails etc?

Is Access best app to run this project through?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

All what you said is possible in Access so I would use Access for this type of project.

what you are looking for can easily be done in access. However, what you should think about is the following:

Only certain people must be able to update records etc and employee's addresses and personal details must be hidden / kept secure.

How many people are going to use your database simultaneously ? I recommend you that no more than 5 users will be using your database at any one time.

Moreover, to keep your data secure you should use the user-level security to get the best of security in Access (although still not 100% safe).
