Hi guys,

I've seen different log in forms and tips on multi-user use but can't seem to find info on the following...

We have 6 people at work and I'd like to assign which user updated a form or created a new record...this would be particularly useful on the sales part of the database to track who made a call to a particular customer...

Best ideas anyone?

The best way to do this is to secure the database.

Even if you do not need additional security for whatever reason, this is only way to force user to log in.

Search the forum about how to secure the database, particularly the posts from Pat Hartman and The_Doc_Man.

You might also search on "audit trail", which will give you some other options.

Thanks for the reply...

I find using the security aspect of Access (workgroup, users, etc) totally overwhelming so have gone for a custom log in form with startup code to prevent access from casual users (hiding all design views along with shift key disabled, etc)......still haven't worked a way round disabling importing of table info from backend into Excel though as my boss always does.....arghhh!!

Thought about using global variables to store users in but that didn't work, even combo boxes on forms to select staff name and then store this with the record (bit long winded though). Even thought about using code to nab the machine ID and that would be fine except we use different workstations from time to time...

So I guess I'll just have to go the workgroup way - just as you said LOL

Take care and thank you!

Ooops I was posting this just before you replied Paul - don't you just hate it when that happens...

Will take your advice on the audit trail search.

Many thanks once again to both of you!

You should be able to use your custom login ID for your purposes. You could even have grabbed the windows user login and used that (presuming users have their own logins).

Yes I thought so too, but wasn't sure how to implement the assigning of the ID's to individual forms - reading the threads you suggested will put me on the right track I'm sure :-)

Many thanks once again
