For starters, the source of the DARview form is simply the employee table. That's why it worked when you just used employee, but fails when you add the date. The date is NOT part of the main form's source. It's in the source of the subform.

I would either come up with a different way of presenting the data that was just one form (so the employee and date were both part of the source), or look at other ways of passing the date to the form so the subform can be filtered on it. Not knowing the overall situation, I'll let you make the call and we'll go from there. Since there's no data in the tables, it's hard for me to test the other ways of passing dates. OpenArgs would be one way.

Id prefer a single form rather than main and sub if we can manage that (sorry about the no data)
the reason there was a main and sub form was the wizard allowed for a view by employee option that i thought would be the best bet for me.. guess in the long run it was not good enough

now that i think about it though i would prefer it to be the way that i had originally done.. easier to understand for my users since currently they are used to an excel sheet view

if this can be done using a single form then thats fine also

I was pondering, and this MAY work. I tested and it doesn't throw an error, but I don't know if it will actually work with data. Change these lines to:

stLinkCriteria = "employeeID = " & Me.employeeID
DoCmd.OpenForm stDocName, , , stLinkCriteria, , , Me.dateAdded

Then put this in the load event of the DARsubform:

Me.Filter = "dateAdded = #" & Me.Parent.OpenArgs & "#"
Me.FilterOn = True

Amazing!!!

These reputation things should let u give someone a virtual "pat on the back" or at least give someone a gold star cuz ive been messing with this for 2 days and u figured it out for me!! thank you so much!

That must have worked, eh? Glad to hear it.

I just noticed you're in New York. Is that New York City? My step daughter is going to move there soon, and is trying to figure out where to look for a place to live.

No sorry, im in upstate NY. Have some friends in the city though. Thats about as close as I can get ya

When filtering on multiple fields, be sure to order the table on the specified fields.
If a table is ordered by day, time then filter string should also specify date first then time
