I have created an access application which I need to distribute to a range of users. The application is linked to our AS400 database using link tables and therefore could pretty much stand on it's own.

Not all our users have MS Access, and we would need to buy more licences for them to have it installed. Is there anyway that an access application can be compiled into an executible which can be used on any PC without the need for Microsoft Access on that PC. This is problerly a very stupid question, and a very tall order!! But I live in hope.

Thanks

we had the same problem

we purchased the developers edition of MS Access, which allows you to install a 'run-time' version of MS access an any PC without a lisence cost.

few things about the run-time version

  • No help - unless you create your own
  • run-time errors will shut down the application - make sure your db is error free
  • no access to tables or queries or design on forms
  • some references in code may have to be changed - i found that referring to objects differed slightly from full access

Thanks for your response, this sounds like a good path to take, and I am looking into purchasing a copy now.

Many Thanks

Just one more questiom, where can I purchase a copy of the Developers Addition of MS Access? I am trying to trace it down on the web, but am not having much luck.

Thanks

The runtime version of Access2000 is still available with the MDT2000 toolkit at www.unsoftwareag.com/tomdt.htm ! Not only that it is way cheaper than the Developer version, but it comes with a much better installer than the "PDW".

I'm confused, I thought you would still need to purchase Developer for the licence to distribute a run-time version of an Access database, regardless of your package and deployment method.
