Ok, here goes... I'm working on a database with 15 tables. most of the main tables have composite keys. This is probably because when it was designed there was alot of present data.
I'll call the composite keys "PrefixCode" which makes up a country & "Code" which makes up a project within that country. together they both make up a unique key, however I'd prefer to create an autonumber field (ProjectID) and have just one field key.
Here's my problem. If I make up an autofield in 'TableA' how does Access know that autoNo.1 "IND / 01" is "IND / 01" in 'TableB'?
example:
TableA and TableB both have "IND / 01" within. Because I've used the "IND" and "01" as a key Access knows that these are related records purly becuase the information was already typed in to each table. what if I have a field in TableA that has "1" (instead of "IND / 01") as the Primary key, how will TableB know that "1" is for IND / 01? is there some sort of Table/Query that can be created to make Access Identify "1" in a new field withinTableB as "IND /01"?
There are 1000's of records and it would take me too long to type in the new No. within a field in TableB by comparing what AutoNo is related to the Project codes in TableA
Hope someone can help
