Hi,

I'm new to access (wiz at excel) and I'm having a problem updating some records. I have table named "Updated 01-22-07". Within that file I'm trying to updated the Shipper_Name field. The file I'm looking to update it from is called "Party City Offical Vendor List 01-22-07".

The common thread in both files is the Vendor #. Where the vendor # is the same I would like the Shipper_Name field in "Updated 01-22-07" to up to the data in the Vendor Name fileld of table "Party City Offical Vendor List of 01-22-07".

I have banged around several queries and can't seem to get it to work. Any thoughts?

Thank in advance for your help.

Eddie.

Why do you have tables that seem to have time stamped data? It would seem you have brought your Excel knowledge to Access when they are in no way similar beasts.

They are time stamped only because they were some updated files I was working with yesterday. I could have called them anything.

I'm looking to change the data on one column in one table to depending on what data is another table. It seems that a query should be able to do this. Am I barking up the wrong tree? Is there some other access function that will do this?

Thanks

Eddie

I think you are try to copy data from one table to another. In a well designed application you don't do this. You store data once and then use queries to extract the data when you need this.

So if you join the two tables in a query, you can pull the vendor name out there.

In broad terms in Access, tables are for storing, queries are for manipulating forms are for entering or viewing, reports are for printing. In Excel, all these functions happen in the worksheet (again, in broad terms).
