Im trying to
Produce a list of available vehicles and drivers for a given input date
Search for an availability that satisfies a prospective customer’s criteria (specific vehicle for a specific date)

its my first ever database and I cant get the begger working right.
it must be relationships or something, but I cant see where I ahve gne wrong.
its just a fictional Weding car hire firm and I create records/orders for fictional customers.

Hi -

In calm English --

'...what exactly is the problem?'

Forget the hysterics and present a problem that someone can intelligently attack.

Best wishes - Bob

Sorry bob , databases are not my speciality at all, I can manage to get through most things but I am not sure of the access lingo to do certain tasks like checking things against each other.

Basically what I have to do is create a simple Wedding car hire company.
A customer makes an order for a wedding car (there are 3 types of car rolls royce, horse and carriage and a classic car) and there are several of each type.
they also give information about the journey , eg start and finish location and the date that this will all take place.
I also have to store information about the drivers I have working for me such as an Id code name and there skills e.g. some drivers can ride a horse and carriage and some drive cars, some can do both etc.

The drivers have holidays each year also, i have been mean and given them one holiday each year for simplicity.

I am fine with most of the database, the parts where I cant get my head around are a few searches that I have been asked to get the database to do.

One is when an order is placed, to check if a vehicle is already booked for that day and that a driver with the correct skill is available.
and the other is to produce a list of available drivers and vehicles for an inputted date.

Its my first bash at Access and it is confusing me a bit, I understand some things to do with dates like the -now() is today stuff. and I can get my head around datediff and that , its just this is this car available for this day etc that is confusing.

I am not very good on relationships either which is probably the main cause of the problem. I can see the relation between say a customer and an order but get lost then with journey, payment, drivers, vehicles etc. Im not sure how to link a vehicle and driver together etc..
its probably quite simple and I have been reading through my access books , but im a bit stuck at the moment.

Thanks for the reply.

Your link is not working (for me anyway)

Compact your database and zip it, then post it here as an attachment. We'll have a look then.

after a day of water and a night of sleep I sat down today and got miles with this database on my own , hoorah!
one thing you may be able to help with is this.

I would like to change a form based on a choice perhaps using "afterupdate",is it possible to run several queries from a form after updating one choice , for example in a combobox. or maybe im doing this the wrong way again.
I have a drop down box of vehicle types and I have querys each checking skills of drivers and avail ability of driver and vehicle.
one checks if they can drive a classic car , one a rolls and one a carriage another one checks if a driver is available for a specific date and another checks if a vehicle is available on the same date.
the queries run fine individually but im not sure how to effectively apply them to a booking form so that when the required date and car type are input it will run the queries and bring up the correct drivers for the job and the vehicle required , else it will report there are no available cars or drivers for that date.
sounds tricky ?
