In Parts of NZ some banks are open 7 days a week. Westpac branch at Sylvia Park in Auckland is open Saturday & Sunday as well as Mon to Fri.

In Raglan, not even the Post Office is open Saturday morning. It is open all day Saturday other places.

BTW - neither the real national day(St Georges) - or St Patricks day is a national holiday or bank holiday in England.

So the banks are open - if its a weekday anyway.

UK TV programs used to call them Bank Holidays.

Why is a Public Holiday referred to as a Bank Holiday?

Historical reasons. The first statutory holidays in the UK originally applied only to bank staff. This soon spread to all workplaces even tho' there is no legal obligation for an employer to give their staff the time off.
