hi,

i have a basic database and i want to link it to a microsoft sql server via ODBC how do i create a odbc file?

DSN method
First of all you need to go to

Control Panel
Adminastrative Tools
Data Sources (ODBC)

and create a system DSN which points to your SQL server database

Then in link tables in Access Choose ODBC and point to the DNS

Thats the basics of it. There are other methods but this is the easiest.
