ooops just no workin

good morning!

i have a wee problem that i thought i didnt! but now i do!

i have made a temp table MethStore
i have made an append qry (that appends data in temp table to master table)
i have made a master table ScriptMasterMeth

MethStore is only supposed to hold one record at a time. (gets the data from a form bound to it) the append qry is supposed to take the data from MethStore and put it in ScriptMasterMeth when the data in the form is changed(thus the new data in the form has to be put in the temp table and we only want one record in the temp table at any time) i want the ScriptMasterMeth to hold all the records ever but MethStore just the current one!
it doesnt do this MethStore holds them all... the append qry works as ScriptMasterMeth gets the records but MethStore holds all of them too.

hope im not waffling too much but a hand would be totaly grrreat! i am getting 'cannot appent record due to key violation rules etc' because of MethStore having more than one record in it.

Why? Haven't you used code to clear your temp table after transferring the row to your Master Table?

ok so i am scared now!
I do need it to work in a multi user environment! i have not got a clue..the guy(my boss type person)used paradox and told me thats how he had done it for the current system and said that would be the best way for me to do it too....i do not have enough knowlege to argue otherwise hence my weeBIG problem i also have not even got a shot in the dark as to how to fix it!

I agree with RV, you should be able clear the temp table.

One comment about Paradox to Access. When doing things
in Paradox there is always an easier way and less steps
in Access

I am with you Pat..i dont want to really say my boss as he isnt but he is the only other person here that Does computers if you know what i mean and he thinks he knows everything about them but he is not very good and no help. I realise that the temp table is a bad idea he has no reason other than thats how he did it and he thinks thats best. i would like to just change this but i only have the rest of the week to make a new idea work as he will be back next week and i go on my Hollybags .

i would love to be able to have paswords for each person that logs in and the just have a feild in the master table that holds that info but not have a temp table or not delete any records or anything.

i just dont know how to do this!
If i could be a pain and ask for help i would be v.greatful

i know nothing of paradox not even seen it b4...im not good with access but the guy i work with hasnt dealt with access but thinks that he knows about it cos of paradox he told me to do that as he though it was the best way....i didnt know any different as i have never done muli user stuff sorry im so bad at this but i really am trying this time next year i hope to be much better iv only been at it 3months(ish)

my real boss keeps asking for different things every week im trying to just stick to the spec but his ideas are sometimes really good
