I want to make a password. If I try to do this I get a message box telling me to open the database in exclusive mode. Unfortunately the solutions that I've googled don't seem to apply to Office 365.

Can anyone help please? :banghead:

Many thanks

Ian

do you open access then navigate to the db you want to open? or do you open the db directly from the windows folder?

Hi CJ,

Thanks for your kind reply.

I would rather find the folder on the drive and open it that way please

to open exclusive you have to

1. open the access application
2. click Open
3. navigate to the folder to find the db and select it
4. then click on the Open dropdown and select open exclusive

Hi CJ,

Many thanks but unfortunately, for some God forsaken reason, that doesn't work in the Access version in Office 365

Sorry, to clarify when you click on the arrow, the option is not show :(

Cheers CJ,

Forgive my ignorance ... I can create a desktop short cut but I have no idea how to give it a /excl swith :(

I've just had a brief look, and will try and get my head around it later but ... is it as 'easy as just adding a suffix/changing suffix of the path in the desktop short cut?

yes - you won't do any damage if you get it wrong!

Does shift + double click on the database work ?
(It works with Office 2016.) Otherwise i guess microsoft wanted an even more exclusive way for their office 365.

Edit : nevermind the shift+click... It doesn't open the database in exclusive mode. My bad :/

Will try tomorrow and let you know I get on, thanks for your kind help :)

to open exclusive you have to

1. open the access application
2. click Open
3. navigate to the folder to find the db and select it
4. then click on the Open dropdown and select open exclusive

I have Office 365. It looks a little difference. Try these steps

1. Open the access application
2. In the bottom left click on "Open Other Files"
3 Click on Computer
4. Browse to the desired database file
5. Click on the file to selected it
6. Click the down arrow on the Open button in the lower right
7. You should see:

Password Problem – Office 365 – Open in Exclusive.

I finally found out how to do it :O)

Create shortcut > Amend Target box to add “ /excl” to the end of the path.

Note: It is essential to include the space before the /

Many thanks for all your help

I spent the whole day going around in circles on this too. You led me to it. Many thanks.
