Glad you got past this part. On to the next. I was thinking you could have all of this on a Calendar that showed the number of reservations on any given day. You can get fancy with coloring the calendar so reservations show up light green color and fully booked days show up in some shade of red color. Days that have no overlap of any reservation have no coloring. Clicking on any day that has a reserved range overlapping the day will show a popup form of all active reservations that overlap that day. Just something to think about to make it all streamlined for your booking agents.

I haven't read through this whole thread, and it seems that the simple query to find overlaps has been mentioned, but so many find it conceptually hard to deal with.
