Hi all.

I have setup an pretty standard DB on a PC, when i try to open this on a laptop i get prompted for a password to open the DB. Unsure why this is.... I've not setup any security on the DB.

The laptop which I'm trying to access teh DB from is looged on a one user ID (locally only). The PC which the DB was created on logs on (AD n/work) under a different ID - that's the only thing that's different - Access DB versions are the same.

Is the data split from the front end? It may be that you do not have the correct mapping on the laptop back to the server or AD does not recognise that the laptop is a member of the domain.

It's all self contained. It's only a small contact list DB, it's stored on a flash drive which works ok when accessing it from the main PC - the flash drive works fine in the laptop too but access opens up then prompts for a password for the local user.

Is it Access that is asking for a password or is part of the application login process?

If the data is not confidential or you can post a snippet of data it may be better to test it locally.

I am assuming it is Access - Access opens up then tries to open up the DB it is at this point Access prompts for a password. If i hit cancel, the Access application stays open but with no database open - I have all the usual menus available for opening a new db etc, if i try to open the database this way it prompts for the password again.

It sounds like either the database has a password set on it for opening or the data is split from the front end - link tables and the back end database has a password set on it.
