all,

has anyone ever pw protected program installations on their computer before? windows help, nor google can give me an article on it. i have a 64 bit and vista home bas. on my machine. what are my options for protecting unauthorized installations of programs on my machine? i don't care where to intervene, as long as the files can not copy themselves. as in, preventing downloads from the internet is fine, and so is just a protection of some kind when an installation package runs. thanks!

(i have searched the UAC and the sec. section of the CP on vista, but did not find anything useful)

The easiest way to prevent installation is to set the user account type to Standard user (get there via the control panel), if anything tries to install Vista will prompt for admin password to continue (iirc - never stuck with Vista went straight to Win 7 and that's the way it does it).

It's not foolproof though. Depending on the the type of installer, Windows may not block it alone.

hmmm!!!
why not try locking the software folder with a free folder security encryptor file

i mean aggregate all your setup files under one root folder and then lock it using a software!!!

:)
