hello all,

I have a split DB, FB and BE both in access 2007. All the tables are linked to the BE in the server. Everything else is local to the FE (queries, forms, etc). Recently we updated the backend to SQL Express and now queries and exports to Excel are taking forever. An export that used to take 1.5 mins in access now is taking more than 1 hour with SQL. Any recomendations? Should I move my project to an ADP? Should I stick with linked tables? How should the connection be?

Any help will be appreciated.

Miracle,

No responses, so just a few thoughts here ...

If the BE only contains links to SQL server, why not have the Front-end link to the
server?

I don't know if that would help performance, but why add an extra layer?

Also, can you check the indexes using Enterprise Manager, or whatever Express uses?
Now that can make a serious impact on performance.

Also, if you ca, run some of the queries on the Server-Side. You should see a TREMENDOUS
improvement in speed!

If you don't, something is wrong with the table structures, indexes or table joins.

If you do, try doing more work on the Server Side.

hth,
Wayne
