pictures in access 2000

hi i was just wondering.....
after inserting pictures into my database to improve the appearance the file size has grown. even after deleting many of the images the files size is still the same. do thye get stored in the file even if you dont use them?
if so how do i get rid of them

Run Repair & Compact. This should shrink your file back again.
 
I agree that you should compact and repair, but I do not believe that the files themselves will shrink appreciably. I am not aware of any advantage to store them within the database.
 
Actually, there are valid reasons for storing image files within a database and that goes for any other file as well.

What it really boils down to is size, distance from customer, ability of customer to effect changes to files correctly, registration of files, how the files are stored, security of such files and if the files are stored in the BE or FE, or indeed, a separate database in the BE or FE directory.

The generally accepted practice is don’t store files but there are too many exceptions that make the general acceptance somewhat tenuous.
