has anyone used this?

I'm just starting with it, but I can't find anyone that can tell me where the content is stored. GoDaddy folks say that there's no database involved with it. But how does it store content on a server??

Does anyone know this?? What I'm assuming at this point is that everytime someone creates a page, the content is stored on the server in the form of an individual text file or something. Does this sound right to anyone??

I can always create pages there to find out, but I'm trying to get as much background as possible first. And yes, I've checked the wiki documentation. It's pretty long, so posting here might be quicker.

Comments anyone?? Thanks much!

I normally look first at the requirements(Click here) so see if what database engine if any is requires.

No database engine required.

Next I look at the installation notes. No datasbe engine mentioned. It did say it can run from a USB drive which is a big indicator that it probably does not use a database engine.

I also look at the Features or Features at a Glance (click here)

On the Features at a Glance the very first item is: Data Storage At a Glance. It says: state: Built-in File-Based Data Storage

So it is file based by default. There is a Plug-in available for Database-Based Data Storage.

I have been looking at different Wikis and Content Management Systems (CMS). I am looking for something to use for documentation of Office Procedures and for Software Manuals.

Curious, why did you pick this wiki? What are you going to use the WIKI to document?

No actually. I'm gonna use it to host a kb of various subjects. It is probably not going to be anything you're interested in.

Basically it boiled down to me talking to 2 GoDaddy reps that couldn't gather the knowledge about the web apps that they offer, so I called a 3rd and told them exactly what I wanted. Just a simple app to host a large kb. I don't really care if it's file based or uses an engine. That part is irrelevant to me. The advanced hosting support at GoDaddy recommended the wikis. They have 3.

Basically I'm using this one because it was created by a PHD, which is more or less my kind of thinker. So it's easy to understand his creation.

I tried all the well known apps like drupal, joomla and wordpress and didn't like any of them. They're way too complex for what I need, which isn't much!

Thanks for the research too Boyd. I would've done that on my own at some point if I didn't get an answer here. Hopefully you didn't research it for nothing.

It's actually proven to be a very useful app. Very simple and the syntax/symbolisms are easy to understand. I'm sure it being in PHP help too, but most of the apps that go daddy has I think are in PHP. I know the 3 I mentioned above are...

You might think it is irrelevant but that will change quickly withe large kb. If you will have very many simultaneous user it will also make a big difference.

I have set up several large WIKIs and CMS sites. The ones the use a database engine are must faster then the file based ones. I tried to build a large KB in a file based WIKI and it did not go well. The performance on every one I tried dropped of quickly.

I know what you're saying. The only factor in this site is the bandwidth usage. There will be no accounts and no one will be able to log into it. That's not the point of the site.

I'm on a shared server though and I get 200 concurrents through godaddy. So it would have to become extremely popular for it to slow down, I would imagine.
