So I have a friend in Mexico who for reasons I shall not go into because frankly it's not anything serious plus I don't want to open a can of worms that distracts the thread, but he has a reason why he needs to install a VPN to make it appear as if he is in the United States when he calls in for a certain zoom call.

This will just be a temporary thing. I know of several and have used Norton's before although they always seem to charge me the $30 no matter how much they promise the free trial.

Does anyone know of a super reliable simple free one that will allow him to choose a United States impersonation?

I will be researching and googling too, but I value your suggestions and feedback🙂

I currently have a Contact Form sent to Proton VPN to ask if their free version would for sure allow a person in Mexico to choose at least one United States server - will see what they say, or one of you may already know

I have used Proton to pretend to be in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, so I could watch speed skating program on Dutch TV which was not available in the US where I reside. IIRC it's a simple matter of choosing the VPN server you want to connect to, out of a list of many.

I use TunnelBear and have used it from Mexico when I wanted to do the Lottery here in the UK, as it looks at your IP address, so I used a UK point.
It is free for a small amount of data each month.

there are Many Vpn on Torrent sites, you don't need to pay anything.

I personally use a modified version of IP Vanish. It is important to note that using a VPN does not guarantee complete security, and caution is advised, especially when utilizing free VPN services. While robust protocols such as OpenVPN, WireGuard, and IKEv2 are preferable, they are not entirely foolproof, contrary to common belief. Experienced individuals with the right expertise may still find vulnerabilities to exploit.

I used Windscribe - free vpn - for light use (10GB)
Does it let you choose a server in a specific country, or does it just handle the mechanics of the VPN capabilities itself and you have to have your server arranged?

@all = I did hear back from Proton as follows about the free service:
Since you're currently using our free plan, you are unable to manually choose a specific server to connect to – you'll have to use an automatically selected server.
You can, however, decide to change to another randomly allocated server while you are connected.

I guess I might recommend he pay $10 (for a month) for this one important phone call.

Will check out TunnelBear.

Frankly I was probably asking too much for a free service to also provider servers and the ability to choose your own country-server

You can select - for the free account, there are 10 servers in different countries from which you can select - one of which is the USA. Can't remember whether it retains this as a preference for the next time.

Thats very nice

I have a Psiphon VPN, which you can also select a country.
The good thing is it already portable version (already licensed).
If you like, I can attached it here.
