I've got a Form for Attendance entry and i need to populate the form from the Last Name field. I've got the list box to work on the last name but all it does is change my data. If I have Jane Doe listed and i pick Smith from the list box she become Jane Smith.

How do I get the form to list all of the information for the correct person. I still need to be able to enter the Absentee info in the sub form though.

Please help

When you're using a field or set of fields in order to "navigate" on a form, you must make sure the field you are using is UNBOUND. The field must have an empty controlsource property. IOW, it cannot have saving it's data to the underlying table/query that is feeding the form. It's only purpose is for "picking" a value.

I'm fairly certain from your description that your field is currently "bound", since changing it changes your data. Just go to the property sheet in design view and blank out the controlsource.

Among the easiest ways to navigate a form is by using the bookmark method. Check out this article: Have the form move to the record selected in List/Combo box. There are also lots of posts on it in this forum. Do a search.

Figured it out

I figured it out the Combo Box wizard was the way to go. I just told it to pick the record from the Combo Box Value.

DuH i should have figured that out with out help. somtimes the brain just won't engage.

Don't feel bad The Cherub. We've all spent needless time trying to reinvent the wheel! Access, and VB for that matter, have automated so many programming processes that it's always best to see if they've already addressed the problem!
