i have a db i want to give to a friend. he has office 2003 without access. can i save a turnkey version of the db that will run on xp?

Sure can. Simply save it as an .mde file. I know how to do it in Access 2010, one would assume it'd be different. However, it's under the Save As option in 2010.

Your friend needs to install a copy of the Access Runtime which is a free download from Microsoft.

The file doesn't have to be an ACCDE or MDE.
