Problem DB

Not sure if this is the right forum for this but I will post it here as its affecting a table that is inside the db i am working on.

I am updating the db for work and it seems that we have inherited a can of worms! A number of people have worked on the db before I received it and i think it shows. I have uploaded the DB to http://www.prevu.net/CLN.zip for anyone who wants to have a look and can offer any advice on how I can get it to work properly.

The problem is that for every entry in the new students form we enter there are produced 2 line entries in the associated table. (new_students). This is compounded as the data from that table is used to produce data to the area heads of departments, which at this rate is going to b way wide of the mark!!

Any help will be most appreciated.

By the look of the database this would require a complete rewrite. The table organization is very poorly planned and the forms are a mess. If you are fairly competent with access design procedures then plan on days if not weeks of work to repair this. If not then consider hiring someone to sort out the database so you are in a position of maintenance instead of despair.

Sorry but I forgot to mention the reason your New Student form is replicating students. You have the main form linked to the student table but you also have the subform link there as well. From my quick look I saw other problems as well:

1. Main form should not be linked to new students except to look for an existing one. A new differently designed form should be used to add new students.

2. The Student Details has multiple links to the main form.

3. The Work Info has no links at all.
