Hi, all -

I have a A2010 FE application that I made revisions to - nothing radical, but some additions, corrections, etc.

When I tried to install the revised file offsite where the users are using A2013, I found that all I would get when trying to open the file was the A2013 main page that shows recently opened files and other stuff. Even pressing the shift key and trying to open the file resulted in the same thing.

This file had worked fine on my own computer although I use A2010. The old version on the offsite computers still worked fine. What I ended up doing was making a copy of the older file, and replacing all the objects in it with objects from the new file. Strange that I couldn't open the file but it let me import its objects. This worked. It's unnerving to have to do that but it seems to be OK.

If anyone knows what might have happened or has had a similar experience, I would appreciate hearing about it so I can anticipate for future revisions.

Hi PaulA,

Sometimes over time a database can get corrupted. Again sometimes just "Compact and Repair" can do the trick and sometimes you need to do the things you did and copy all objects from the old database to a new one.
You're in luck that it still is an option.

I haven't got the foggiest why this happens. Can't help you there.

Thanks for your reply.

It was unnerving, especially when there is pressure on delivery. My solution seems to be fine. Unfortunately, doesn't one have to be able to open the file to repair it?

Any, as you said, who knows how or why it happened.

Thanks, again.

it just reinforces the need for regular back ups. It's only slightly irritating for a user to wait for you to repair/reissue the database. It's much more horrifying if you find your only database copy is trashed!

Agreed. We have those - but this was a new replacement database (front end) which I was trying to install offsite from a copy I had sent which worked for me.

The transporter beam must have created a mutant.
