Hi all,

I posted a previous question about the problem people were having access my database from a new location (Was in the UK, they have moved to Budapest). I could not find the answer to my solution, so i just though i could copy the database on a CD and the users could then install it at the new location. When i try to run the copied database i have problems.

1. The database is read only and i can't change this
2. I can't see the tables, queries, forms when i press F11
3. When i try to click buttons to my forms most of them bring up an error message saying : Run time error '2472' You enetered an expression that has no value.

Please someone help, im really struggling and this has to be ready soon for when they move. Thank you

Are they using a different version of Access?

Well to be honest, i just copied the database on to a cd and tried opening it up myself...and those problems which i have mentioned are what is happening to me.

I havn't even sent it them yet, i don't have a clue what to do. any help would be appreciated

I have realised why i couldnt see the tables, quesries, reports etc...i just needed to click unhide...doh!

My other problems are still the same, i cant make changes as its read only and when i click on the buttons to open new fors it is just blank and the error message pops up, although when i choose design view i can see everything

when you open the db from a cd it will always be read only. You need to copy the file onto a writeable disk first i.e a hard drive.

HTH

Ok, so, sorry to sound stupid but should i then copy the database from its current location to another location on the server and then put it on a writeable disk, the one i have been given just says CD-R , im sure it should be CD-RW.

Is the fact that the disk is read only, stopping my from seeing some of my forms? Thanks a lot for you help by the way, ive been panicking!

Yes, I had the same problem. Even with a CD-RW. If the form writes to any of the tables, you will get errors.

I eventually started putting it on a flash drive instead of a CD because of those very problems.

Yes well some of my forms do link to my tables. I am not able to use the flash drive here at work...dont ask me why! Are there any other options? or im a well and truley stuck

Only thing I can suggest, is to copy it to the CD. Go in through the back door (ie bypassing your start up options), and making sure all the tables, queries, mods and reports are there.

Once you verify all is there, copy it back from the CD back to your desk top and see if it works. If it does, then you know it should copy ok to the CD and back again.

Other than that I am at a loss. That is why I had to use a flash drive now. :o

Do as selena suggests - copy the db onto a cd and then copy it back to another location on your hard drive to check it all works. It does sound like all these problems are occuring due to you running the db from the cd.
The only other time I have got blank forms as you say (but can still see them when I switch to design view) is when I have the Allow additions property set to NO in that form and the underlying query(ies) are returning no data. have you checked this?

I can't thank you both enough! I was running it straight of the CD and now its off works perfectly! I can't believe i was soooo stupid, but your both life savers, i was panicking there!! thanks again! :) And its nearlly the weekend! Have a nice one!
