For some reason I keep on getting the message: "Error accesing file. Network connection has been lost" whenever I press a button to carry out a form-related operation. This trouble did not exist before I made some changes to te tables in the forms (i.e. field length changes). This should not have created any problems as I deleted all of the old records to avoid validation problems. Now i find that even new buttons I create return the same error, even if they are on a blank form. Should I remove all of the buttons and start them again?

We went through this 6 months ago. It is a horrible interaction between Access 2000 and post W98 operating systems, or with word2002, or what every MS wants you to believe. Our only solution for future efforts was to get a hot fix from MS. Other than that, make a new file, import forms one at a time to find corrupted ones. Recreate the corrupted forms. Make sure that you compile any new code before you close the file (this includes wizard generated buttons), pray. If you forget, just once, your'e in the soup.:(
