Hello!

WINDOWS 8.1, Access 2013 (Office 365).

I started an app to store various data concerning populations of Canada. I cleverly taught of adding a reference for each entry (in socio, this is very important...). Alas, the references combo behaves strangely: see the form frmProvPopulations. Any idea???

Thanks, JLC.

JLC, what exactly is happening? And what needs to be done to reproduce the same problem?

Did you try the form? If you do not have A2013, the combo lists the refs normally, but when you select one entry, the actual path is lost, replace by a hyperlink to the Reference ID number!!!

And what needs to be done to reproduce the same problem? Just run the attached app.

That's what needed to be explained. I can't go blindly testing a form without knowing what you expect to happen or not happen, remember I know nothing of your db and what is does. ;)

With that said, can you give steps (i.e. what button to click, etc) and I can test it on 2010 and see if I get the same behaviour.

Visibly, you didn't open the app. All you had to do is open the form and select a ref: I didn't give much info on steps because for an experienced programmer the case is obvious!!!!! The only thing I am expecting from a beginner is: with MY A2013, it works normally or not.

OK. Create 2 tables.

References:
Reference - Auto, PK, References -> Populatoins
RefLink - HyperLink

Populations:
Population - Auto, PK
PopNumber - Long
Reference - Long

Create query sqlReferences:
SELECT * FROM References

Create a form (frmPopulations) with a combo for Reference

Fill References with 2 entries

Using frmPopulations, enter a PopNumber and here it is, the combo will display the References correctly but when I select a ref, what is displaied is not the selected ref but a new one that is a link to References.Reference!!!!

It's as if my A2013 cannot handle hyperlinks in a combo...
Let me recall you that my Office 365 (legit!) seems to be abnormal...

I'm not talking about steps to create your db, I'm talking about steps to reproduce the problem that you're experiencing. For example, open the form ABC, click button xyz, look in combo def and you will see or not see xyz.

You know what the problem is, I don't, unless I was psychic. Even if I see a problem, that may not be the problem that you are actually talking about and as a result you need to be explicit. I would have expected you already know how these things work on a forum such as this. And yes, I had opened the form, that was why I asked what exactly I need to do and what I should be expecting.

You have two forms with "Populations" in it. Is it frmCountryPopulations or frmProvPopulations?

Ah! Ah! I found were the mouse was hiding!

For those 6 readers who read the app one thing went unnoticed: I made a naming error...

Usage of Reference was possibly a good idea but Access doesn't like it: it seems to be a reserved word! I changed it for Ref and every thing goes.
