I was gonna put this in the moderators forum but I wasn't sure of the "visibility" of that forum and I wanted to get some feedback from other members so I'll post it here and if Jon/Mile want to move it with a link to it from here that would be swell :)

My Question:

Would it be possible, or does anyone think its a good idea, to have a sticky thread on this forum (and the others for that matter) with the title "Please Read Before Posting" (or something to that effect) that kind of details guidlines and reccommendations for new posters like proper post names (not PLEASE HELP! or URGENT), posting guideline, and - my biggest pet peeve - the need to use the SEARCH FUNCTION before posting a topic. I try to jump on these boards throughout the day and give back to the place where I got a lot of education/intro on Access programming (and still do :D ) but it seems as though most of the time my posts lately consist of "Please search forum", "Please search using this keyword","Try searching","etc... as this is a lost artform or something. I don't think its malicious mass-posting for the most part from many of the new users I just think there is a lack of understanding how powerful the search function on this forum is as a tool for learning...

I am curious to see what others think and what the mods think as well... Also - Kudos to Mile/Jon for a great forum and for the nice new editions (code/sample forums)

Regards,
Kev

I think that in some cases it is pure laziness but in others it is a case of not knowing what to search on to find relevant posts. When I tell people to search, I try to give them the keywords to use. Hopefully that will give them a positive enough searching experience to try searching the next time they have a question.

I was thinking of making a Glossary thread in the FAQ forum that would explain a lot of terms from cascading combo to composite key (and that's not even the Cs :p

I, personally think that that in itself would be a great reference. I especially want to keep going back to the FAQs and editing them so that words (for now) become hyperlinks to other threads and - essentially - make the reference even better.
