Range Question

Hi there computer wizards,

I want to know if when information is transferred via a VLookup into another sheet that Excel can just look at this information rather than a whole sheets, i.e. if there's only 100 records transferred, it looks soley at these and not at 49,000.

I've tried index but doesn't seem to give me what I want. So rather than putting $A$1:$A$A49000 to make sure it captures everything, it will only look at what's there.
