Re Linking Linked tables at start up

Hi,
I have looked in most forums but dont get a complete answer.
I would appreciate some help.

I have created a application and split the data from the front end.
I would like to password protect the back end so users cant get to the sours data.
I would also like to send this application to a random person to use and provide them with the ability once they copied the files to their PC, to add a link to where they saved the back end file.
1. How can you prompt a user to provide the location of the back en on the first time use
2. If the back en is password protected, how to you allow a connection the the back en without providing the new user with the password.

be aware that if the user has access to the navigation pane, or has a modicum of vba/query experience, they can easily discover the password.
