Can I make a linked table read only?

My situiation: I want to create a new db with a linked table from the original application giving the user of the new db the ability to create their own queries and/or reports but not be able to modify the table.

Everything I've tried lets me open the table and make changes to it.

Can anybody help please?

Put the linked table which is to be read-only into a separate read only mdb and link that table from that read only mdb.

I'm a little confused. The table that I am linking is being updated on a daily basis but the data entry group so I can't move it to a read only database.

I need to make the linked version a read only table.

Please explain further if I'm not understanding you response.

You mean your system is never down?

Alternatively, institute or modify Access security to include the table in a group for your users which is read only.

Thanks for your response - but I was hoping there was an easier way to do this. Like some magic flag I could set and it would solve all my problems
