I have a active DB and a inactive Db and I would it be better to use to update the second database. for instance if the records in the active became in active I would need to have those records migrate to the inactive db. Or would a Append query be sufficient??

Desiree,

If you did an append query, then your record(s) would exist
in both databases.

The first thought is "Why two databases?" and secondly,
"Why two tables?".

Unless you are anticipating a very large number of records,
then all you really need to do is have a flag that signifies
whether a record is active or not. You can filter on this
for forms, reports, etc.

Reason

Thank you Wayne for your advice I understand why your asking those questions I should have explained that in the beginning. The reason for two Dbs and two tables is because each database is going to be huge as in over 4 GB so I'm trying to save space. Originally I was planning on combining the two then Iwas told how they were going to be, and since access can only hold 4 gbs (from what Ive researched) then I thought it might be best to leave them as is, until I can find another way. I'm in the process of doing alot of investigating into the matter plus I'm taking indepth classes.

I forgot to mention that the databases wont have duplicate data because the inactive records will go to the inactive db and the active will be in the active db. Basically after the inactive have migrated out of the active db and to the inactive db then they will no longer exsist in the active db.
